Health Condition
A piercing is a wound in which a foreign body is placed, i.e. jewelry. To make it easier for your body to heal and make the symbiosis with jewelry successful, it is important to keep an eye on your immunity because the general condition of the body plays a big role in the healing of piercings. If your immunity is weak, you eat poorly, you sleep poorly, you are exposed to constant stress, you have problems with hormones and the like, all these factors affect the healing period of the piercing and can prolong and/or make it more difficult.
Keep in mind that a fresh piercing can be easily irritated. For example, avoid getting your nose pierced when you have a cold or allergies causing a runny nose, or your tongue pierced while dealing with a sore throat this can lead to excessive swelling and healing complications.
Octopus Studio is not responsible for any potential health complications or delayed healing of the piercing in cases where the client fails to disclose their medical condition to Octopus staff prior to the procedure.
IMPORTANT!
Please inform us before your piercing session if any of the following medical conditions apply to you on the day of your appointment.
- diabetes
- epilepsy
- hemophilia
- persistent cough
- skin conditions
- heart problems
- blood pressure issues
- flu-like symptoms
- pregnancy and/or breastfeeding
- elevated temperature
- breathing difficulties
- fainting when having blood drawn
- blood-borne diseases (HIV, hepatitis, etc.)
In some cases, these health conditions are not a problem when it comes to piercing, e.g. if you have a runny nose due to an allergy and you want to pierce your belly button. In this case, the piercer may recommend that you take an immune-boosting product.
Some conditions require prior consultation with a doctor or other medical professionals (for example, a dermatologist if you have specific skin conditions). If you have diabetes, epilepsy, heart or blood pressure issues, or any bloodborne diseases, please consult a qualified healthcare provider before booking your piercing appointment to ensure the procedure is safe for you.
Piercing is not recommended while you are taking isotretinoin (e.g. Roaccutane, Accutane), as it significantly affects skin regeneration (slowing down piercing healing), sebum production (making the skin dry and sensitive), the integrity of the epidermal barrier, etc.
Some of the potential risks of getting a piercing during the therapy include slower and poorer healing, a higher risk of infection, increased tendency for scarring (hypertrophic scars or keloids), easier tissue tearing and irritation, and a higher risk of jewelry migration or rejection.
We would recommend waiting at least 9–12 months after completing the therapy before getting a piercing, especially for placements such as ear cartilage, microdermals, or surface piercings.
WE DO NOT PIERCE PREGNANT AND BREASTFEEDING WOMEN (NO EXCEPTIONS)
Pregnant and breastfeeding women cannot undergo this procedure (no exceptions). During pregnancy and breastfeeding, the body goes through many changes. Although the likelihood of a piercing causing any direct health issues is very small, medical practice in Croatia tends to attribute even the slightest negative reaction to the piercing itself.
“You’ve developed a rash on your neck? That’s because of the piercing on your ear.” Jokes aside, during pregnancy and breastfeeding, the health of both mother and baby must always come first. The piercing studio isn’t going anywhere, and you’ll have plenty of time after breastfeeding to think about all the beautiful piercing placements you’d like to get.
CONSUMPTION
FOOD
Please make sure to eat a proper meal at least two hours before your appointment, especially if you have low blood pressure or tend to get nervous. If you come on an empty stomach or have consumed only coffee and cigarettes that day, low blood sugar combined with stress may cause you to feel faint or unwell during or after the procedure.
MEDICATIONS
If you have taken any medication that dilates the circulatory system (e.g. aspirin or anticoagulants) within 24 hours before the appointment, be sure to inform our staff before the procedure. An enlarged circulatory system can lead to heavier bleeding during and after piercing. If you are taking regular prescribed medication (for example, for diabetes or epilepsy), please consult your general practitioner before booking your appointment.
ALCOHOL AND INTOXICANTS
If you have consumed large amounts of alcohol and/or any intoxicating substances (drugs) within 24 hours prior to your appointment, you must inform our staff. Alcohol dilates blood vessels, which can lead to increased swelling and bleeding during or after the piercing, potentially affecting the healing process. Both alcohol and drugs can also alter your pain sensitivity, meaning the piercing itself may feel more painful than usual.
Octopus Piercing Studio reserves the right to refuse service to anyone suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
