Preparation for tattoo

Unlike a piercing that you can take off when you get bored or don’t like it anymore, a tattoo is an ornament that can outlive you. Therefore, it is extremely important that before getting a tattoo, think carefully about the choice of design, its meaning, size and position on the body, and the possible impact on your everyday life.

MENTAL PREPARATION

Right before their first tattoo, most people are in total panic – how much will it hurt, will I faint, what if I don’t like it later…
Humans have been tattooing themselves in different ways for thousands of years. So far, no one has died from the tattooing procedure itself (a few years ago there was a guy in South America who jumped into the sea in a harbor after getting tattooed and died from a bacterial infection, but he survived the actual tattooing).

Your mindset plays a major role in whether you experience a situation positively or negatively. It can also help or hinder your preparation for tattooing.
If a person is upset during tattooing, panicking, squirming, whining like a small child, etc. – a tattoo that would normally take 30 minutes can drag on to 60 minutes or more. If you manage to endure the small amount of pain you voluntarily decided to experience, it is easier for the tattoo artist to work and everything is finished much faster.

SKIN PREPARATION

In order for the skin to be as elastic as possible and easier to receive color, it is recommended to avoid intense sunbathing and tanning beds for at least 10 days before tattooing. Self-tanning products can affect the quality of the tattoo and we also recommend not using them for at least 10 days before tattooing.

At least a week before tattooing, do not put products containing glitter (glitter ) on the skin because they are very difficult to remove, and due to the composition, they should not come into contact with the wound (new tattoo).

When tattooing a part of the body where hair grows, it must be removed before the tattoo itself. If you do not normally depilate that part of the body, do not try to do so yourself to avoid damaging the skin. If you arrive with skin that is very irritated, full of pimples, scabs, etc., we will not be able to do the tattoo. The tattoo artist will remove the hair immediately before tattooing.

GENERAL INFO

Before any physical or mental effort, it is always good to eat because food gives us energy – a well-known fact that most people ignore or forget in the panic before a tattoo. It is recommended to eat a meal that does not consist only of coffee, a cigarette, and a chocolate bar. If you are getting a large design that takes several hours, bring some juice, energy bars, and similar.

Do not come sleepless, stressed or under the influence of narcotics (alcohol, drugs) because all this affects possible heavier bleeding during tattooing and reduced secretion of endorphins, which results in increased sensitivity to pain.

Wear something that you will feel comfortable in during the tattoo, especially if a larger design is being done. We recommend layering so that you can take off your clothes in case you get hot or put on extra clothing if you get cold. With longer tattooing, changes in body temperature are possible.

If you are doing a larger tattoo (2-3 hours or longer terms), feel free to bring a tablet and headphones with you to watch Netflix, a book or some other activity that does not require excessive movement.

Before getting a tattoo, it is necessary to thoroughly inform yourself about the possible health implications. Octopus Tattoo Studio is not responsible for any damage to your health or your tattoo if you fail to inform us of any medical conditions that could pose a problem prior to the tattooing process.
